The Prime Minister won't listen to anybody

17/10/2007
PMQs today was a noisy and lively session, clearly the Labour Party have been told to be in good voice. But I think what was interesting was on two vital issues, Health and Europe, there's absolutely no sign that the Prime Minister will listen to anybody.

Where at one time people talked about the Westminster bubble now I think we can be even more minimalist and talk about the Brown bubble. Gordon Brown has become so arrogant since becoming prime minister that he won't listen to anybody. This is appalling patriarchal politics. This isn't democracy.

Hi DC, thanks for asking the questions we all want answered. I know it's like banging your head against a brick wall.
Brown put on a broken record about his views of conservative spendng plans. The trouble is the B-Side is about the massive holes in government funding and the increasing borrowing. On the sleeve notes we read that spending growth is going to slow and taxes are still going up.
I'm glad William Hague is already thought of as the Foreign Secretary by Brown. If only it were true.

Well said David. How dare Gordon Brown go back on his promises like this. And how dare he try to hoodwink us with all this "red lines" blether.

Attack, good tactics for winning a battle.

Shame you didn't use the petition figures to rub his nose in it.

Now that would have been delightfully cheeky.

An excellent attack David in the commons. Yet again Labour have thrown out their manifesto and broken their promises. They obtained thousands of votes by fraud, they are making a mockery of democracy and it will now appear to the voter whats the point of voting if once elected politicans ditch their manifestos and do their own thing.

I'll never forget losing my Aunt to this dreadful thing. Years afterwards we're still seeing the same casual attitude to hospital hygeine from this Government and the same unconvincing excuses used to try and explain it away. Do keep pressing them on this, David, and don't let them get away with c-diff the same way.

You are absolutely right to push on the referendum. Such blatant flouting of manifesto committments should not be tolerated.

However, on the European thing, I hope you and your colleagues are thinking through something new on how we can have a European continent that can standup for itself in the world.

With a resurgent Russia, a Muslim world of billions looking to work together much more, the Chinese economic boom and waning US power and influence, we need something which allows the individual nations to thrive and be free and yet bind together as an effective bulwark against these growing threats to democracy.

We know this Treaty is just a plaything of bureaucrats, but what is the real way forward for us on this continent?
