Subject: Backstage at the Conference
What did Dave do? He wrote learnt his speech, he said over and over again until he knew every word that he needed to. So in fact his speech can be termed as "someone else" and NOT "me." His notes, they were headings so he could remember what he had to say if he got lost.
Don't play the public, even the most seasoned after dinner speakers do that. That was all his speech amounted to - an after dinner speech in a room full of wrinkly, old middle to upper class cronies.

Subject: Oh dear
This was a brilliant speech, full of thoughtful content and well delivered (to an audience that included all age groups, actually). And, compared to the now utterly dicredited Brown's dour and dull delivery at his conference, it was highly refreshing.
When you are old and wrinkly too, Odbe34, and have been to Uni and learned to look at BOTH sides of an argument, you may have learned to open up your curiously closed little mind.
