A packed schedule in the North East

06/12/2007
Although the life of a Party Leader is odd in many ways, it’s more balanced than some people in Westminster, because you spend less time in Westminster and more time in other parts of the country. I think that’s a good thing.

Quite right David. Those who think the job of a senior politician should be reserved to spending all day at your desk in Westminster are living in the Dark Ages. They should try the job themselves and see how much travel (quite rightly) it involves.

Welcome to the North East David
Please return someday and see it from an environmental aspect too, its wild beauty.

Help us to preseve this so that the economy is not allowed to upstage the environment There will be
a balance but One North East promised us that
implementing their Regional Economic Strategy would not destroy our unique environment

Very encouraging to see young people involved in vocational training. The future Conservative government must put great store in such training for our young and unskilled jobless.

I am particularly pleased to hear the calls for economic stability. The Labour governments attempt to artificially create demand through spending and debt was always going to be a flash in the pan and has run its course. The only way to achieve sensible long-term economic growth is by supporting the supply-side of our economy, as entrepreneurs know. That's why David got such a good round of applause!

I have you have offset in some way the effects of your decision to travel to the north-east by car and by plane!

I have to agree with Lizabeth. There is an awful lot more to the northeast than the Teesside or Tyneside city regions.

Our environment is key to the lasting beauty (and tourism industry) of our area.

Eco-villages springing up on the site of former cement works, the glorious Durham Dales that are actually still working dales.

Give me a day of your time and I'll show you sites to make you forget the words 'coal mine'.

Subject: Conservatives In The North East

It is always nice to see that Newcastle and Gateshead are all there is to the North East. Why do the Conservatives always forget about Northumberland.

Northumberland is probably one of the most povertised counties in the UK. Subsequently marginalised, critically and consistently underfunded even by Labour itself. A county where support for new or developing business is none existent and where retail businesses are suffering real hardship, particularly in Morpeth.

All this is going on whilst It's democracy is under attack by both businesses and politicians alike.

Yet it is an area of outstanding natural beauty with some of the richest heritage, cleanest air, natural coastlines and beautiful scenery in the country.

But please Mr Cameron, for once, just forget about your soothsaying big business leaders, let me instead take you around Morpeth to speak with the small local businesses here personally. They will tell you what hardship is really like and how local politics has totally failed them. Conservative and Labour alike.

Or are we the shame that is to be ignored by all politicians as it suits them not unlike the slums.

The overall failure to develop and properly fund the Northumberland region is a national disgrace, more so to Labour who have governed this area for years, yet treated its residence and electorate not only with total contempt but who have also failed to properly fund schools and education consistently.

Still, even with all this it is nice that the Conservatives do recognise that parts of North East exist since it is the Labour heartlands.

Subject: Labour heartlands are Labour wastelands

WhiteWolf01, the very fact that places like the North East have struggled is because they are Labour heartlands. If we look around our country the most neglected and impoverished areas are those that have been run by Labour for generations. This is a clear example of cause and effect. The Conservative party must go into the Labour heartlands and make the case for change. While these areas continue to be run by Labour at local level and are represented by Labour MPs their social deprivation will only deepen.

Subject: Tourism in the North East

November 2002 by the Minister for Tourism Dr Kim Howells.
Tourism is worth £1.8 billion to NE economy, about 50,000 North-East jobs are supported by tourism, with a further 50,000 relying on is economic spin-offs, in total 10% of the regional workforce. The first in the UK the study is the most accurate and detailed to be carried out into the economic benefits of visitors to the region.
It is expected to pave the way for other studies, which would provide a National picture of the value of Tourism.
From April 2003 One North East will have responsibility for strategic tourism development.

Will politicians ever find a balance for the ‘national interest’ and protection of the Open Countryside? Profit must not over ride interests of ordinary people.

Please return to Co Durham (Teesdale) and Northumberland. See their wild beauty, their World Heritage Sites, Bowes Museum
Take a tour with White wolf as he requests
Find out from us what makes us tick

Well that's two invites Dave has received from the NE. Me in the south of the region and WhiteWolf in the north.

But I think the killer line comes from Lizabeth. "Find out from us what makes us tick".

Stepping outside his comfort zone wont be easy, but lose the suit and tie, pull on your walking boots and come for a stroll Dave. You may well be pleasantly surprised how the political ground is ripe for the taking.

Subject: Toursm in the North East

All party leaders should make a visit to our Region and learn to appreciate its beauty versatitlity and tranquillity. Northumberland has been found to be the most tranquill county in England. Tranquillity does not mean "quiet", but a place where you are more likely to hear natural noises, uncluttered by human intervention.

That is the value of many parts of our Region, perhaps rare in many other parts of England. But it is under a growing threat, especially from wind farms. The value of these structures is hotly debated in many quarters and been raised in an editorial comment in the Journal recently (commenting on the Public Inquiry into the proposal to construct a wind farm at Middlemoor).

So please come and see our wilder parts, putting on your walking boots as MandolinKing suggests, and work out whether we really should be putting significant areas of this Region under the threat of a form of development whose benefits are not established. Once lost, the tranquillity of these areas is likely to be lost for a long time.
