Benefit Officer Workers Strike Over Pay
Quote:
Tens of thousands of Jobcentre, benefit office and pensions workers are taking part in a 48-hour strike in a row over an imposed pay deal.
Staff at the Department for Work and Pensions walked out in protest over the three-year pay plan.

Isn't that just grossly hypocritical? They say to the unemployed all the time "i am sorry but i am afraid you will have to accept anything on the minimum wage."

Well I think they should SWAP SIDES with those on the OTHER SIDE OF THE DESK.

Give the jobs to the grateful umemployed who want a job and chuck these GREEDY LAZY GITS out!

I work for 3k/YR. Never mind the 12k they get for filling in forms, telling people NOT to apply for jobs.

They do a useful job but its not rocket science. They could get a lot of older unemployable managers 40+ to do it on minimum wage.

The government cant afford sky high wages, that is for private industry.

In private industry they would be told - no pay rise AT ALL and if you dont like it we will sack you for daring to moan.

My sister had to partake in this strike although she didn't want to. It seems the strike was not too popular among the rank and file union members.

Is it because they get abused by claimants saying "how dare you strike over pay, try being this side of the desk".

Why aren’t all public sector workers on minimum wage? The government claims that it is at a good level now and the currently unemployed should be very eager to take jobs paying such wages. Furthermore, it is clear that we can import plenty of people who are extremely happy to be paid national minimum wage. Some of them even manage to send money home. So why is the taxpayer being defrauded by paying more than necessary? Surely there is no legitimate reason why anyone that is paid out of the public purse should receive more that necessary: £5.52ph, £220pw, or £11,500pa. This should apply from the most humble of cleaners to all cabinet ministers including the prime minister.

It’s only fair to the ‘hard working taxpayer’.
