If there is a shortage of body parts then why don’t we harvest them from all the lazy unemployed that people complain about? If they are unwilling, or unable to work on the chain gang then they will have to ‘give back’ in other ways in return for their keep.

OK I want to put a scenario in this debate!

Supposing that our bodies when we have died, are tken over by this Goverment. The Funeral is delayed. And during our latter days, we havent been to the Docs. They open us up, and then find that none of our parts are suitable?

Thats the nicest way I could put it!

I don't mind donating body parts actually, as long as the recipient doesn't mind receiving body parts abused by many years of cigarettes, alcohol, cannabis and sometimes less than 5 a day fruit and veg.

seems strange to me that the medical profession can refuse to give medical treatment to people who are smokers, obese, cannabis users, drinks more than 10 units of alcohol a week or whatever else they deem anti-social these days, but they would still want the organs to put in someone elses body

I must be alone in thinking this is a really good idea...

Anybody who wants to opt out can opt out. It seems perfectly reasonable. Put it this way: The majority of people are likely either apathetic as to what happens to their bodies after they die, or perfectly happy for their organs to be donated. I personally am apathetic. However, it is complicated and irritating to fill in various forms etc to give permission for your organs to be donated.

This scheme taps the resource of these uninterested and apathetic people, like myself, who could save the lives of others by donating their organs. At the same time it allows anyone who objects for any reason to opt out. How much more fair can you get?

I find some of the above reactions absurd to the point of hilarity. I can only assume Graham is using his keen sense of irony to take the p*ss out of this thread... :-)

Also, Donnie, you have nothing to worry about - doctors will not want your organs due to your long standing tobacco addiction. You don't even need to opt out, your body parts aren't valuable enough.

No Deal wrong it’s the Ahotollas of the Tobacco Taliban the dregs of pond life, they carnt debate they always descend into the pit just full of poison, venom and hate – you have to feel sorry for them realy – sad lives. The thought of any of my families body parts who don’t smoke ending up in low lifes like this just turns my stomach that’s why I will be making sure that the whole of my family smokers and non smokers will being opting out.
