As we approach the Common Wealth Heads of General Meeting (CHOGM)2007,I am left to wonder if at the Common Wealth is still of any great significance to Britain given that European Union is now the main thing.

Question: With an EU president, where is the position of the Queen in Europe? Is Her Majesty above the EU President or below (in EU Poltical structure?).

Back to Common wealth.

Gone are the days when we were proud to be members of the Common Wealth. Nowadays, Common Wealth means nothing and yet its member states have long contributed to Britain and made it what it is today. The British former colonies have more love, respect and support for Great Britain than those EU member states that have no close links with Britain. A typical example is that of the Euro Song contest were all the Eastern European states stick together and hadly give any votes to Britain.

I think it about time, Britain realised those nations that love and respect and not merely seek to profit from it. I would to conclude by saying that let us join hands and support the Queen and the Common Wealth.

I'm not sure the Queen has any place in the EU structure.

I've always been very pro-commonwealth and I think its sad that we have abandoned our old friends in favour of Europe. The Commonwealth also held the advantage of being a set-up trading block in which we were the big fish in the tank!

I was always against EU and don't think it has done us any good. Of course most employers like the EU as it provides cheap labour, for this reason new countries are continuously encouraged to join. The danger is that the bigger any union becomes the more likely the nations will disagree. The problem is that we stick to the rules even if it's to our disadvantage, we don't seem to be able to accept that other countries ignore the rules that don't suit or at least take many years to impliment laws they dislike. Just look at the Spanish attitude to foreign company take overs. At least we didn't join the Euro, they are linked so closely each country looses control. Ireland did well at first but the cost of living has rocketed in the last few years

I don’t think it is a case of Britain having to choose between being an active and constructive member of the European Union and being an active and constructive member of the Commonwealth. One of the results of our history is that we can be active and constructive members of both, as well as playing our part in the trans-Atlantic alliance.

Take an issue like the crisis affecting Zimbabwe’s population, and the need to put real pressure on the Mugabe regime: both the EU and Commonwealth countries – especially those in the region – are able to play their own distinctive roles.

One of the main items on the agenda for the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting next month, which amk mentioned, is climate change. On that too, Britain needs to play a leading role in all international organisations of which we are members, in the run-up to the crucial UN climate change talks in Bali in December.

I think its time to ask the people about the EU
Its constitutionally illegal .(and No Fun)

Zimbabwe : A sign of things to come.
(to fight Mugabe will only teach him the art of war).

(your job, should you choose to accept it,is to save us)

Climate change : We cannot stop climate change.

Mankind is however in danger.

The answer is stop useing power.
There are no options to discuss.

We can with some of the dwindling resorces prepare.
(we must leave resorces for future generations)

No power is the future.

This can be done.
It will happen.

Communities, families will grow strong in the face of
this challenge. It is the only way to survive.

Probably not what you want to here, but I am on our side.

For 2 hundred thousand years we managed,we are capable. We have knowledge.

(common law, magna carta, the bill of rights, declaration of independance, the coronation oath. This is real power)

(it is not a pretty solution)

Britain should lead in this.

You know I actually laughed out loud when I read that. Mugabe doesn't care. Doesn't care about the people of Zibabwe and doesn't care what the international community think of him or his regime. Why? Because he continues in a very nice standard of living regardless.

Now if Zimbabwe had significant oil reserves, we would have trotted along behind the USA in an invaision of this country many moons ago.

with due respects to all members, i would like to add something.
Is there any good of being in commonwealth? i mean when GENERAL MUSHARAF of Pakistan goes wild on his people, all commonwealth can do is to suspend Pakistan's membership! does that concerns MUSHARRAF in anyway!

Salmon
