Supporting a campaign for a Children's Hospital in Leeds
30/06/2007
On Friday, I was at the Leeds General Infirmary, to support a very important campaign for a Children's Hospital. I also visited the scene of recent floods in the city, which led to hundreds of people being forced out of their homes.

Subject: A warmer world, floods and the Tories.
You mightn't be in Government yet David, but at least you've gone to the scene of the floods. It's more than any of the 22 Cabinet Ministers Gloomy Gordon's appointed have done. Why not seize this chance to push your 'Go Green' message home harder in the North now people there have seen the conseqences of global warming for themselves? Strike while the iron is hot, or in this case while the countryside's still awash!

Subject: David's interactive style
David, I like your interactive style of going out, meeting and supporting those involved in essential public services. New Labour claimed to do this but they would just turn up, hand out pledge-cards then vanish to a fanfare. During these days when people often feel alienated from the political process it is upfiting to see that you want to get right to the nub of peoples concerns.

Subject: Flooding...
If people were not allowed to build on flood plains/water tables, the flooding would be substantially reduced - whilst it will do nothing for short term, could you think about laws to ban the future building of houses on these areas? I mean - if you get into power! I know that there are builds in Witney (Witan Way, not far from Waitrose) that are struggling to be insured because of where they have been built (on a flood plane...).
It is indeed good to see you interacting with the public.
