For heavens sake, we haven't even started to solve the problems that stem from the current level of membership. How on earth would it be expected to function with an increased membership encompassing countries that have little or no cultural connection with the existing members?

I despair of our politicians sometimes.

If the European Union is going to expand beyond Europe, the name at least ought to be changed.
