Firstly, my heartfelt sympathies to Her Majesty. The expression on her face says it all! Bet she wishes she could disown the whole caboodle!
Brown has presented a blurred vision that badly needs new specs. He is waffling, yet again. If he is able to form a vision at all it is probably far too far left for the British public to stomach and for Gordon to dare to admit to. So here we are with the only thing that appears to be substantive being the raising of the school leaving age... and what will that achieve? A fictional improvement in unemployment figures perhaps? More problems for schools as the 6th forms are congested with pupils who don't want to be there! Other than that the rest of the speech seems to me to be rhetorical claptrap that we shall probably never actually see implemented! [We live in hope]. But the sinister side of New Labour, with Gordon Brown now openly pulling the strings instead of working TB from behind, is that Brown can't tell the truth, can't come up with a definitive policy, and certainly won't acknowledge that Labour has already messed up this country big time! So what does actually go on behind that frozen smile and half-closed eyes? What is the real plan that Brown has? How much worse is the situation going to get before we get an election?
Oh and have you heard Harriet Harmon?!!!! "This is a man [Brown] who doesn't like to keep things up his sleeve. He likes to listen to the public..." Oh poor delusioned woman! Where has she been hiding all these years?

Extract from BWEA's briefing on the speech
Quote:
BWEA has been engaging with Government on these issues, There are a number of Bills proposed in the Queen's Speech which could have a significant impact on the UK's wind, wave and tidal sectors.

Climate Change Bill BWEA believes that the Bill should: Place existing targets for renewable energy, such as 10% by 2010, on a statutory footing.

Energy Bill The Bill should: Extend the life of the Renewables Obligation beyond 2027, or outline alternative support mechanisms.

Planning Reform Bill the Bill should:Enable the Secretary of State to refer wind farm applications below the 50MW threshold to the new Infrastructure Planning Co Place the proposed National Policy Statements on a statutory footing, in order to strongly guide local authorities, which will still be making the majority of decisions on onshore wind farms
Draft Marine Bill Leave the proposed IPC, to be established under the Planning Bill, to decide applications for wave and tidal energy, alongside wind

I love the Queen.

Some of the people that get elected as her ministers
must seem like a punishment from us.

I missed the speach ( I will live :) )

I love the Queen too. She looked rather uneasy at reading out the current PM's agenda - I'm sure she would prefer David Cameron rather than Gordon Brown as Prime Minister.

Long live the Queen!

And to think that Queen Victoria was nicknamed Mrs Brown!!! Not something our present Queen would appear to want to be reminded of!

Thanks Canvas Just hope there is no 'Get Carter'connotation there!
Jess
Have just caught this post of yours as I am so busy
However I have done a special post on the 'Howard's Way' thread which I hope will help you to understand the purpose of my posts.(Howard is nothing to do with the previous Coservative leader,it was my maiden name).
As I pointed out
Quote:
BWEA has been engaging with Government
and that is my concern as they have so much might and money it is difficult for ordinary people, knowledgeable but impecunious to get the message across.
I have been following this issue for 10 years, mainly the methods used to promote onshore wind and the ensuing Democratic Deficit.
I have mentioned only one campaign back in 1996 though there have been several government supported campaigns since, none of which appear to have had the desired effect
All I am doing is recording the truth as a piece of social history

Thanks Lizabeth. Appreciate your efforts to keep me in the loop.
There is a whole new debate in your comments which I haven't time to go into now. I have contributed to the page on Environment, which probably sums up my own thinking. But if this is your bag. Good on you. Doesn't really alter my starting ponts I'm afraid. Soz.

Jess
Kind regards. I wish you both well. It may not seem obvious that my 'fight' really runs parallel with yours and many on this forum. Some have been disproportionably disadvantaged as a result of government policies Now as we remember those who died so we should have justice and freedom it seems even more necessary solutions should be found to the many problems
so unfairly experienced by so many.
