I started a thread a while back where I like to post Boris stuff so I thought it might be handy to have some for other important MP's.

Did any of you watch "Question time" on Browns Broadcating Company this week?
He looked very out of place with the others on the panel. I think it was the questions posed, they were not really in his line of expertise. Questions about failings in the TV channel corruption would be better put to DCMS politicians.

I would have loved to see him let loose answering on Home Office type topics.

Otherwise quick to formulate his replies, very little uming and ahing unlike the other panel members. I would like to see him getting into a hot debate across the chamber but he seems a man of few words.

Ah yes. on the 8th october during the Criminal Justice and Immigration Bill debate David Davis said to Jack Straw

"When the Minister looks again at the legislation that allows homeowners to defend themselves, will he bear it in mind that, according to a survey released recently, one in four people keep a baseball bat or blunt instrument under their beds to deal with criminals? That creates a great deal of danger to both them and—although I must admit that I do not lose too much sleep over it—the criminal. There must be a better way, and a way of enabling people to undergo training and have access to proper equipment that would enable them to defend their families, rather than relying on a baseball bat, which may harm them or someone entering their home."

Fair and reasonable request I feel, but what "proper equipment" can Mr Davis have in mind? Tasers?
Tasers along with various gas sprays are section 5 firearms, that category is for particularly dangerous weapons. Also in that group are rocket launchers, hand grenades and machine guns.

I feel it is long overdue for Tasers and gas sprays to be recategorised. The police have them as non-lethal alternatives. They should be permitted for self-defence at least in the home.

Another anomoly with our self-defence in the home laws is that it is an offence to "put someone in fear". You are not allowed to frighten an intruder to cause them to flee.

You may not point a toy gun nor shout from the safety of your bedroom "I am armed" and let off a blank firer as a psuedo warning shot. A blank firer, that may well alert neighbours who could come to your assistance, is not allowed.
