Sport?

Dear David,When is the Party going to make a national and international stand against the mutilation and torture of animals for pleasure in so called blood sports, in the same way that our MEPs have taken a stand against the skinning alive of animals in the fur trade?Regards,Kenny

If you look at DC's voting record then you will see he is in favour of hunting. That's ashame.

The hunting ban was the most ridiculous thing to have happened in politics since the days of Screaming Lord Such. In the first place, whoever gave everyone the impression that foxes are cute and cuddly? They are vicious horrible creatures who deserve no pity whatsoever. If a fox gets in your chicken hutch it systematically kills every chicken. It then takes one away to eat and never returns. Why kill all of them? Well, sport, I can only assume. The ban was a reaction to the media's overemphasis on minority views, and urban society's increasing detachment from the real world.

Beyond this, since the ban on hunting with dogs, the hunts are larger than ever before, and they shoot the foxes instead. The ban on fox hunting seems to have done nothing but remove the only sporting chance the foxes had in the first place. Before, all the fox had to do was outrun the dogs. Now it's buggered. Well done to all involved, hey :-D

I can't bear the concept of 'hunting'. I also can't bear Boxing. I think Boxing should be outlawed. Violence and cruelty always sadden me. That's how I feel. I will never be persuaded to think otherwise. To each his own.

Boxing?

Right...

You do realise that boxers go into the ring with the knowledge that somebody is going to try and hit them... The only way it could possibly be seen as cruel is if boxers were forced to fight. They're not, though.

If I squint really really hard I can just about see why people want fox-hunting banned. I can't help but think that the people who want it banned are disconnected from reality, history and the natural world, though. This is quite peculiar, of course, because the same people tend to claim they are 'in tune with nature'... Very very odd.

I think hunting is cruel - and I think boxing is violent and stupid.

What's the difference between a fur coat and a leather jacket, or leather shoes?

I know most leather comes from cows that we eat anyway, but it's still killing animals for us to use.

Cows are farmed, animals which have nice furry coats are farmed too- no difference as far as I can see?

Have you not seen the documentaries? ANIMALS ARE SKINNED ALIVE FOR THE FUR TRADE INCLUDING ALSATIAN DOGS. Remember the TV programme earlier this year with Paul McCartney and Heather Mills-McCartney in support of the animal welfare charity PETA which showed just that. I'm not a vegetarian, but when I pop my clogs I want it to be painless, quick and without my knowledge. There's no reason why animals can't be 'dispatched' HUMANELY. That's the point.

I'm with Kenny on this one.

I'm with Kenny too. I actually don't eat dead animals - but it's a personal matter. Wearing leather is a by-product of the meat industry and some people would suggest it's respectful to use all of the animal if you're going to kill it. Hunting and killing for the thrill , in a very cruel manner, is just stupid.
