Control of Aircraft Emissions.

- We have to reduce emissions from aircraft.
- The tax regime proposed is strategicaly weak, and will not seriously impact the problem, but will adversly affect British business, as well as annoying those who's support we need.
It will be seen as a response typical of a tax and spend goverment, and has probably done electoral damage. - We need to move away from the idea that taxation is the weapon of choice to deal with these issues.
Carefully researched Legislation that enforces best practice with limitations on totals ect. always proves to be a much more successful method. Note the success of the LCPD with its limits on SO2, NOx and other emissions. - The environmentalist groups, Greenpeace et al, have done a good job raising awareness, but now have an almost religious blinkered belief that theirs is the only way, often unable to agree among themselves, and refusing to listen to new ideas. They are now part of the problem.
- We need the legislators to work with the Engineers, Scientists and Business Leaders, who have real expertise in this field to establish the way forward. Maybe set up a proper research group with clear objectives and guidelines.
- Talking to Richard Branson would be a good start. Lets make it illegal for aircraft to move around an airfield, or to and from the runway, under their own power! An instant major reduction in emissions.
