MMC / MTAS: issues are the same

Posted by hsarah on Monday, 05 March 2007 00:36:39

Not much of an uproar on the plight of junior doctors. We are facing the same issue about which you know by now. But we are living with this nightmare called "MMC/ MTAS" and what hurts most is that no one can feel the pain of being discounted like this. After all the hard work we are at the mercy of a non-transparent, random number generating project called MTAS.

This issue has already been addressed.
See Ask David section. This new voting period is for the forthcoming two weeks.

Actually 'canvas', that's the whole point - it HASN'T been addressed yet, not by the current government, nor the opposition, the media, or the public. This is in stark contrast to some of the questions raised on this website, such as ID cards, crime, road pricing etc.... which are very much in the limelight and are currently under scrutiny by just about everyone.

The issue about doctors' training is not just another political football for the opposition to leverage to their advantage - it has real and serious implications on the future of healthcare delivery and millions of people, including yourself and your family. As such, I believe the Conservatives will see it as a true issue this country needs to address, and one which deserves a much higher profile than it currently has.

What is "MMC/ MTAS"?

Posted by ScaredDoctor on Monday, 05 March 2007 12:48:05

In response to "what is MMC/MTAS", that is the whole point!

NO ONE KNOWS WHAT IS GOING ON UNDER THEIR NOSES!

There has been NO media coverage of this travesty, (except for the Telegraph on Friday -front headline and a page 4 spread- but virtually nothing before or since).

To get a taste of junior doctors' plight, PLEASE READ the comments following the top post in the last voting round (which by the way obtained over 1000 votes in a 3 day period) - see title of post below:

Labour to make 8000 junior doctors unemployed (approx. a quarter of the junior doctor workforce)

We desperately need more people to be aware of this issue.

bakkers I'm not sure that's what canvas meant

You can see in 'David's Responses' that the MMC issue was last week's top question. This means that Mr Cameron will be responding, by video or by text, to this question within the next week. Canvas was simply referring to the fact that you WILL be receiving this response, at which point this particular question will be answered one way or another. By reposting it, you'll simply end up getting the same answer to the same issue in two consecutive weeks (or fortnights... what is up with that?)

And the piece of string questionis obviously, at least so far as I can see, intended to be amusing. There isn't a rule (thankfully) that every post on this board must be entirely serious - are we not allowed a small smile every now and again? It's unlikely to be voted to the top of the list anyway.

hey bakkers - calm down! I was simply explaining that the votes from the last voting period ended at midnight - and your issue is No.1 on the list for Ask David... - and there will be a response from DC this week in the 'Ask David' section. Nothing more sinister than that! promise. :)

It would be nice if you edited your comments about me out of your post above - they seem a bit harsh and unfair. Thanks.

*** PS> Re: The important and controversial 'string question'. I was advised by Webcameron that this was an 'ideal question' to 'Ask David'. And I trust Webcameron.

If you don't believe me then click on the link below - it's all there - in black and white. :)

All this whining from junior doctors ensures that David Cameron will not have to answer any more controversial questions. So well done you! 2 weeks running, and all 6 questions completely identical. And guess what? You're not going to force him to give any more answers, rather, he's just going to say "I've already answered that!" So 5 questions wasted! Nice one!

Now go on, some doctor tell me "I don't understand the issues"! Coz only doctors could... Get over yourself and this complete non-issue. If people would open their eyes and realise that if we all agreed that the most important issue of all is political reform, we could resolve ALL the issues. Not likely to happen though; "me me me" is far more important. Haven't you got used to it yet? The NHS is getting privatised, nothing you can do about it.

United we stand, divided we fall. Etc. Oh look...! ;-)

I may be being a little bit thick here, but IAmNoOne, surely there is more to this issue than some doctors complaining about themselves. Besides the point that his Tonyness has said we need more doctors, then proceding to sack nearly a quarter of all junior doctors, haven't we as the taxpayer funded the education of these junior doctors? The numbers banded about when I was at university was it cost £100,000 a year at medical school, then the same each year when they are working. So for these junior doctors who've been working for 5 years, we're talking about £1,000,000 of wasted tax payers money.

If the numbers being banded around are true - 8,000 unemployed - then that's £8,000,000,000 wasted. EIGHT BILLION POUNDS!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?! How on earth is this not a MAJOR political issue? What issue is more controversial at the minute? Why have the press not picked up on it? Why isn't David Cameron crucifying his Tonyness about it?

I would like to know, far more than whether or not David Cameron might be a freemason, or whether the TV license might be abolished. I would much prefer to know if I had to go to hospital that there may be a slight chance of seeing a doctor or that £8 billion of tax payers money hasn't gone abroad or to work at McDonalds

Modernising medical carrers is going to destroy the NHS.
I am a doctor in Southampton General hospital and out of the 40 doctors in my year about a quater have not been short listed for interview. Most of these people have now secured positions outside of the UK. Each Doctor costs the NHS hundreds of thounds of pounds to train and now other contries with benifit from there training and knowledge. The NHS and thousands of tax payers will loose out! Jounior doctors hours have been cut to a more realistic 48 hours per week meaning we need more not less doctors to safely cover our hospitals.
It is already bad enough that we are all aplying for our jobs at the same time meaning we are being interviewed at the same time leaving the hospitals understaffed.

Don't miss these
