Two words, well a name actually:

James Bond - 007

Now dat inspired a lot of the other rip off copies we see ta'day...

...didn't a Bond set burn down in Pinewood recently? hmmm...

It is, of course, very important for all kinds of reasons - cultural reasons and business reasons.
Why do you ask? It seems pretty obvious to me. What are your views on the subject?

I think the key reason the British film industry is important is to stop the Americans re-writeing history!

Well, to expand on the question a little...

How many British based individuals are employed by what can be collectively termed as "The British Film Industry"?

How much investment is current provided to British based projects?

Would a 25% increase in that investment see a 25% increase in the number of British based individuals employed within the said industry?

I do not know the answer to the above questions and I would like genuine answers if people can provide them.

I'd like to see more investment in the British film industry, mostly because I'd quite like to get a job in the British Film Industry. I think as a whole the industry is growing steadily and significantly - after a revival in the 90's (with Trainspotting and Lock Stock and such) British films are really making marks on the international markets - films like Hot Fuzz, quintessentially British, are opening all over the world and doing really well, and there's series of films like Harry Potter that are enormously successful, and James Bond is back...

There's also British actors, who are nominated for several Oscars this year.

So, on the whole, I'd say I think the British film industry is doing really well at the moment.

I actually have another part to this question which I will add later but for now, while I am appreciative for any kind of response, I'm not too interested about how healthy the film industiry is.
My question is about it's importance and if greater funding would see a greater number of employees.
