I have serious reservations regarding what I perceive as a manically egotistical attitude demonstrated by the majority of senior politicians in today's parliament.

Why do successive governments implement policy with total disregard for the general wishes of the electorate? Do you consider that becoming elected as the next Prime Minister will be justification for your party to implement any policy without regard for the sometimes shifting views of the population or will you endeavour to determine a balance between what you as "David Cameron, Prime Minister" considers to be the best policy and what you perceive to be the general wishes of the electorate?

Previous governments, both Labour and Conservative, have severely overstepped the mark in implementing some policies that are plainly unpopular with the man in the street. Why do politicians believe that they know so much better than the electorate? It seems to me that we simply elect limited term dictatorships and not a body of intelligent, sensitive individuals that will be genuine and determined in making policy that benefits the people of this great country.

Mr. Cameron, please give me a good reason to vote for you.

As someone said recently at the fundraiser for Democratic presidential contender Barack Obama - ``The people with the most experience are the people who got us into this mess. Along with everybody else, I'm ready for a change,''

I think a good reason to vote for David Cameron is exactly that - we're ready for a change.

Mind you, I like David Miliband too - I'll keep watching that space closely.

Gordon Brown must go.

I see where you're coming from Enough. Unfortunately, though, politicians do have to draw a line between what they think is right and what is popular. Leadership is often about saying no - it's very easy to say yes. Incidentally, I'd vote for David Cameron over David Miliband any day.

Well, I believe Gordon Brown is too wrapped up in the entire Iraq mess. He can't remove himself from the equation.
He has also robbed our OAPs. It's a disgrace. There are other reasons too - but mainly - I just don't think he has what it takes. It appears he can only focus on his budget...

It would be great if Barack Obama got into power in the USA - and worked alongside someone like David Miliband - or maybe even David Cameron. Not sure yet...

Gordon Brown is power hungry, arrogant and generally disliked by the entire population of the country. His continued presence alongside Tony Blair is dividing the Labour Party, and therefore the government. I personally cannot imagine what will happen when he becomes Prime Minister, but I really don't think it will be pretty, or good for the country.

That's why he's got to go...

But I'm interested to know why Milliband is so much better then Brown. It appears to me that it can be for a number of reasons:
Novelty for novelty's sake.
Personality politics.
A cleaner break with the past.

Personally, I feel that only the last reason is a particularly valid one, the others are petty and often counter-productive. I also find it hard to believe that anyone could seriously claim that they don't want Brown because he has been a bad chancellor, although I imagine I'll have a number of challengers on that point.

Davetheslave, I suppose the reason I'm warming up to Miliband is precisely what I wrote in the first post at the top. We're ready for a real change - the younger politicians seem more in tune with what I want and what I like...

I'm undecided - but things are getting interesting. But I do know that I really don't like Gordon Brown. :)

Enough - absolutely correct. Over the years I have witnessed numerous Prime Ministers and governments come and go. There is always scandal attached to these people with either sex, money or drugs. These are the people that are telling you how to live your life whilst at the same time doing exactly the opposite. however, I have to say that Blair is the worst prime minister I have ever seen and his government are a disgrace. I had hoped that David Cameron would stand up for peoples freedoms and liberties but at the moment I feel sadly disapointed at the stance taken and it looks like just more of the same. We are all treated like mindless drones on a never ending treadmill coughing up tax after tax whilst wages dont rise - how much longer do they think people can go on like this. You are right we do seem to elect dictatorships - todays politicians have forgotton they are supposed to be the servants of the people not their masters. Another Oliver Cromwell is desparately needed.

Canvas, I just thought I'd mention that I like David Miliband too, but I could never bring myself to vote for someone who advocates yet another 10 years of Tony Blair and New Labour - it would be a rewind to 1997. The centre-left Third Way has had its day (it belongs in the late 1990s) and it's time for a change - a new centre-right project under David Cameron - to put right what New Labour have got wrong.
