Will you stop the privatisation of the Post Office?

Posted by PeterJMcC on Tuesday, 20 February 2007 16:41:26

Over the last several years we've seen the secret privatisation of the Post Office by this government, ably assisted by the Civil Service.

For the millions of us who still live in rural areas this is cutting off a lifeline.

Will you stop this policy if you take over government?

I so hope so!!! I live in a village, and more and more services are taken from the Post Office. No wonder its not doing well - you can get the TV license and pay points and thigns like that (I'm not sure, I don't usually do those sorts of things), you can now get from Tesco etc.

Banks have gone, pubs have gone, the local sportsgrounds have gone, one vicar between several parishes...but hey! We've got lots of foxes now!

Some villages have clubbed together and bought their post office, ensuring its continuance at least for a while. Say NO to Tesco.

You have to remeber that it was the conservatives under MagretTthatchers reign that decided it was a good idea to sell of lots of state owned assets that were held for the benefit of the population, these were :-
british gas
the various regional electric boards
british telecom
the general post office GPO
the rail network
the various regional water boards
and lots of council owned social housing

I don't think any aspect of public transport should be privatised, including rail. The post office can be privatised, but don't cut the services that made the post office! Soon post offices will disappear and we will have the "TescoMail"... the core of the post office is being ripped out of it.

Remember we aren't under Thatcher anymore now, we have a young new leader to modernise the Conservative image.

Don’t worry rural areas you will get replacement mobile post offices, that will add to the pollution in your lovely green country side, and you will have the added bonus not to meet and chat with the usually folk you look forward to seeing in the post office every week.
We should be supporting all aspects of business in our communities, or we will all pay later.
Post office, milkmen, green gorcers, local famers, Butchers everything that makes a community.
The government were to quick to introduce payments into bank account for eardly, which then took them on buses into towns to collect their pensions, giving banks their help and not OAPs,and of course now some pensioner have the added worry that they will be charged for not having more than X amount deposited into thier bank monthly...very clever!
The government are to quick to allow high street store, especailly Tescos to cut their prices that no local community supply of basics such as Bakerys, Dairy and Veg can compete.
We will be collecting our sausage at the meat counter and dropping into the GP while we are at, I predict in as little as 5 yeasr if this government does not take away some of the High street stores power and control.
We need to bring back the price control act...The French still live by it ,and they are doing perfectly well
Communities will be lost ,and land that has been protected for 100s of year will have a brand spanking new centre called "TESCO TOWN"
If you value your community say no to Tesco!
