Can we see a shadow cabinet meeting?

Posted by Paine on Monday, 19 February 2007 23:03:35

Dear Mr. Cameron,

Would you be able to record a shadow cabinet meeting, and put it online as a resource for all the users of webcameron?

It would be fascinating to see who the movers and shakers are in the shadow cabinet, and how you conduct meetings. Are they very formal, or quite informal? What sort of things do you discuss? Are there many jokes, or is everyone quite stern?

I think it would prove very insightful, and do wonders for opening up politics!

Thank you for your time,

Steve

A very interesting question.

If these people are to be our next leaders, it would be good to see how they operate.

Thanks!

There are so many different ways of conducting meetings, it would be interesting to see what DC's look like! There are some bubbly personalities in the shadow cabinet too, as well as some less-so. I'm just genuinely curious - I have no idea what to expect..

This would certainly help open up the cabinet (no pun intended...)

I'd watch it, it'd be cool

anything other than 'cannabis' or a '9/11 conspiracy' would be most welcome :) Thank you.

Of course, I would need to use the secret 'freemasons emoticon' to get this to the top of the list... ; )

I think it would be great, but just wait until the media get their hands on it!

Gordon Brown and Tony Blair would start their photocopiers immediately :P Conservative ideas would be ripped to pieces. This is the only thing that would bother me. I'd love to watch one though :D

I'm glad to see that we have people coming up with sensible suggestions alongside the repeated 9/11 and cannabis rubbish.

This would be a great watch.

I'm not sure I agree. The Labour Party, a lot of the public, and the media will be listening in with nothing but hostility in mind.

I guess we won't know until we see one! : )

I'd be interested to know why you're asking Mr. Cameron this question?

Would it not elicit a better answer to ask "Can we see a Bilderberger meeting?"

Now THAT would prove very insightful, and do wonders for opening up politics!

David himself has never seen a Bilderberg meeting, nor presumably has the capacity to impose filming on attendees.

I for one think a Shadow Cabinet meeting (edited obviously) would help the Tories tremendously.

'David himself has never seen a Bilderberg meeting..'

Come on man, are you kidding me?

I mean I know David said he never went to a Bilderberger and more importantly, politians are famed for their honesty, transparency and probity.

You sound so convinced!!? You have no idea if he's been to one!

The sky is blue, the grass is green and poiticians lie!!

What has an edited tory cabinet meeting got to do with political transparency?

However I am actually all for political transparency, so maybe having ALL cabinet / shadow cabinet meetings open to public viewing would be a good start.

I think anything that starts to disabuse these political ponerologists of the notion that they can circumvent the will of the people through secrecy and lack of disclosure should be embraced by all of us!! Sure we might give away a few secrets to foreign nations etc and the ever popular backhander knighthood deals with big oil, pharmaceuticals and the industrial military complex would be more difficult to pull off. But what the hell, you gotta crack a few eggs to make the omelette...

I always held the belief that regardless the side of the false left / right paradigm they inhabit, all politicians should stay home in their constituency where those who voted them in can see the whites of their eyes on a daily basis.

In these days of technical advancement, the logistics of running the country by of net meeting does not seem too farfetched a proposition. MP's sectretaries could attend the houses of parliament for votes etc - or it could be done online. What do you think?
