Does this government have any integrity?
Des Smith claims he "was hung out to dry" by Tony Blair.
He said he understood the depths of despair felt by Government scientist David Kelly, who killed himself amid controversy over the Government's Iraq weapons dossier.
"A former government adviser on schools has admitted he considered suicide after being arrested in the cash-for-honours probe.
Des Smith, a teacher and former adviser to Tony Blair's flagship schools programme, the Specialist Schools and Academies Trust, said he felt deserted by the Prime Minister.
Mr Smith said: "I was literally hung out to dry by Tony Blair and his government and all of his associates and ministers. They didn't even wait to see if there was any evidence against me before cutting me off."
It is alleged Mr Smith told an undercover journalist that businessmen could get an honour by sponsoring the so-called City Academies, sparking the police investigation that has rocked the Labour Party and damaged Mr Blair's image."
