Dear David,

£120 per year to empty the bins, a possible £1.34 per mile to drive on roads that road tax is supposed to pay for, a hike in fuel tax and retrospective taxation against individuals who had already booked their travel ! Just how far are these money grabbing numpties going to be allowed to go before we have Civil Disobedience? Although one million people have signed the petition against this governments lunatic road charging proposals, it seems likely that they will just press on regardless ! Everyone knows that these measures have NOTHING to do with Climate Change or Congestion, government simply needs money to fund Blair's Iraq adventures and to purchase new Nuclear Missile submarines !

There will never be a better time to blast this failed outfit into oblivion, so hows about it, David, show the nation that the Conservatives will have no truck with road charging and that the motor industry is safe in your hands, that research will be funded to find alternative biofuels and other sources of clean energy, let the country see that some of the exorbitant duty on road fuel is going to be spent repairing the roads and building new ones where needed. Show us the leadership we need to get the "I'm Backing Britain" flags flying, instead of half the population wishing it could escape to a Country with vision and a future.

Hello Freethinker,

Unfortunately, the problem with this country is that is has had no Prime Minister for almost ten years. The present incumbent at No 10 is simply the American ambassador to Great Britain; i.e. he does whatever he is told to by whoever is in the White House at the time. Mr Blair must spend our money where he is told to - at present it is to finance a war GB should never have got into; naturally weapons are another priority, because, having gone to war, Mr Blair has made GB and its people a legitimate target for aggression - hence the increase in tax from whatever source; and the greater the need, the more inventive the government gets - remember, we already pay for rubbish collection in our council tax.

However, it is not just tax (at least, not direct tax): the billions that have been spent, and are yet to be spent, on the ID/NIR scheme (an indirect tax on citizenship) could be better used elsewhere, such as solar panels on houses, insulation for homes, double glazing (which, if you notice, they also want to tax), education, hospitals and, as you point out, research into genuine and workable ways to provide green transport systems, whether it be private cars, trains, trams, buses, etc.

£120 to empty bins, and they won't empty them if the lids don't close completely, claiming it to be overloaded. What are we meant to do if they won't empty it? Because its not going to go by itself. There have been numerous threats to dump rubbish in the garden infront of the town hall!
