Work Life Balance

Posted by Popple on Thursday, 08 February 2007 10:13:55

I'm glad that DC is going to go home and see his children at bedtime. (Report in Daily Telegraph). He is lucky because I know a man who works for a foreign firm here in the UK who works 60 to 70 hours a week every week. He is not the boss but an employee. He has been doing that for months if not years; his firm does not believe in a work life balance and has apparently no intention of following any directive. That's why we need the working time directive to stop exploitation by employers!

So please stop going on about how bad the working time directive is.

I myself own a company, and I agree 100%, people need protecting from exploitation. The only problem is we have shareholder workers who are willing to work extra for the benefit of the company and themselves - how would we get around that? a balance has to be struck between willingness an obligation. Perhaps the low paid manual workers should be the first to benefit from such a directive.
