Scotland visit

On Thursday 18th January, members of the Shadow Cabinet visited constituencies across Scotland before travelling to Edinburgh for the regular Shadow Cabinet meeting. I visited a drug rehabilitation centre in Aberdeen to meet with staff and patients.

These people who need the help have to wait 12 months to get treatment, basically because they use an illegal drug.
As soon as someone uses an illegal drug they are forced into the shadows by prohibition laws, once there it is very difficult and expensive for people to find, recognise the problem and help the person.

If someone becomes unwell from some food that they had eaten, people around that person will quickly recognise that there is a problem and they would help.
If someone becomes unwell from a drug that they use, people around them will ignore them, stigmatise them and not help, it them takes a long time for a special, friendly and helpful rehab worker to find that person and give them the help that they need.

On the whole, prohibition causes society to fail, communities break up due to prejudices and people suffer for too long.
