A revolution in responsibility

Posted by David on Monday, 15 January 2007 17:34:21

Today I hosted a conference on Social Responsibility, which is going to be the big idea for the Conservative Party in the decade ahead.  Nicholas Boles of Policy Exchange and Camilla Cavendish of The Times also gave their thoughts.

Cameron saying: "We need a revolution" ... that's the spirit - I approve of that, it probably needs to be a bit more comprehensive that I imagine DC is proposing though.

I admire the way David Cameron is forging ahead with his revolution. Let the right wing Conservative 'donors' go to the UKIP if they want to...Time are changing and they'll get left behind.

This social revolution is aimed at doing the same to society as Thatcher did to buisness in the 80's, good luck society needs it badly!

Is it just me or is the most significant group that doesn't take responsibility the Government?

No mention of that by Mr Cameron. He also continues to avoid answering questions on reversing the nearly unfettered dictatorship that Blair has built. I wonder why...

Interesting perhaps, but so far devoid of any real content or explanation of what it means. New Labour talk a lot about "responsibility" too- and in that case it means invariably that the chattering classes decide what is bad for everybody else, and then everybody else is obligated to show "responsibility" by doing as they're told.

This is Blair's Ninny State. Are the Tories really opposed to it, or will "Social Responsibility" simply be more arbitrary pressures and diktats from those with governmental influence, imposed upon the masses of ordinary citizens who have none and are weighed down more every day by state interference in every aspect of our personal lives?
