Calling all people of any age or any political party
The right to fight for what is and is not acceptable be it Education, NHS or any issues which have surfaced on Webcameron, must not be lost. Local knowledge is all important as well as a wide range of specialist information.
It is unfair to ignore those who truly wish to defend the places they love for themselves, others and future generations to enjoy. It is equally wrong to apply the term Nimby when used in a pejorative manner.
Only they can protect their‘own backyards' Will David Cameron if he becomes PM allow them to do just that?
I have copied an abstract from a CPRE Press Release on 10/06/04 by Sir Max Hastings.
It is vital that we should persuade more and more people to write letters, turn out for meetings, show politicians in the clearest terms what is and is not acceptable to local communities. In recent years, the word NIMBY - not in my backyard - has been given a pejorative meaning, by housebuilders and politicians whom local democracy does not suit.
Yet it seems to me a fundamental and absolutely proper right, that local people should have a real voice in what is done to their own community. Why should not people object to horrible things being done in their backyards?' CPRE has to accept change in the countryside, and as well as attacking damaging policies it had to offer constructive alternatives - other and better ways of doing things'.
Sir Max says: 'Our responsibility is to help to manage a pattern of change which will always be with us, whether we like it or not; and, of course, to fight to preserve the green spaces of this island which mean so much to us all, and which often seem to mean far less than they should to those who govern us'.
Wishing all ' blogggers' a Very Happy New Year and success with the variety of issues they themselves have brought to this site. Greetings and thank you to David Cameron and the web team for allowing all these isssues to be posted.
