Northern Ireland Conservatives

Good afternoon Mr Cameron,

Would it be a good idea if there were Conservative candidates in all the Ulster constituencies as well as on the mainland at future general elections?  This always happened before the 1970s and I think all parties aspiring to government ought to stand in all constituencies.  Is there any way of getting the Unionist parties to merge with the Conservatives?

The Conservative Party is already organised in Northern Ireland and will be contesting elections in the future...and has done in the past (indeed we almost won the North Down seat in 1992). We reject suggestions that we should merge with the Ulster Unionist Party or any Party - we are the Conservative Party. Our members want politics to be secular, non-sectarian and Conservative. We see the local parties as being too entrenched with Orange/Green issues.

Many members of other parties have been joining us and membership has improved since David took over the leadership. We intend to contest several Assembly seats in March - should there be an election. We also have an elected Councillor who defected from the Ulster Unionist Party - and a former Stormont Minister.
