Scottish Devolution

I was interested in the fact that the Scottish Assembly has implemented the pay rise for their nurses in full with, basically, immidiate effect. I would propose that we give Scotland full independence and let them raise their own taxes to spend as they please and stop any further English taxes being sent across the border to subsidies them - lets see how long they last!

Ever since Labour let the genie out of the bottle by setting up regional assemblies, it has been a racing certainty that, sooner or later, the SNP will be the majority party in the Scottish Parliament. After all, as one of their number pointed out at the time, sooner or later the main opposition party invariably becomes the party of government. When they do, they will call a referendum on independence, and if they do so quickly enough, and catch the mood, they will win it.
Scotland and England have benefited from the union - Scots being brilliant engineers and scientists and English being brilliant traders and entrepreneurs - at least until the socialists tried to kill the goose that lays the golden egg. Without the union, names like Watt, Baird and Dunlop would be unknown to history, and the world would be more backward as a result.
Some Scots I know believe that Scotland, like Ireland, will rake in a huge, disproportionate tranche of EU subsidy on Independence, but I ask them to remember that Scots strengths are honesty and intelligence, not blarney and horse-trading, and there are many calls on those subsidies.
