Cumbria Rail Crash

Posted by scrubsupwell on Saturday, 24 February 2007 17:48:11

Dear David,

Please can you press for safety barriers to be installed on the rail-way networks where embankments exist that could cause a very safe train such as the pendolino to fall down.

Probably with barriers an accident such as this would have resulted in only minor bumps and scraps.

We have safety barriers on our motorways and bridges.

I'm sure we all send our condolences to heartfelt sorrow to all those people and families.

Thank-you

...I wonder what length and thickness of siding steel one need to prevent a train running at ~95MPH going 'over the edge'?

My first guess, is it would be a lot.

Discuss, I'm verklempt (RIP 84 Year old woman BTW)...

...Safety is safety!

Discussion is vital.

In the diving world, one doesn't just lose a diver, without some explanation other than errrm coral on the dive tank (Leaves on the line)... now clearly this 84 year old woman on a Virgin train is at the heart of the points problem, all the way near the lady of the lake.

Yes RIP, but aren't those trains STILL running up to Glasgow, or to Edinburgh etc...

You see, safety starts now... why was that train unsafe today? A twig on the line perhaps? hmmm eh?...

I wonder if Network Rail are responsible - was it a problem with the points? It's really disturbing.
