SORs

Posted by dwlegg on Tuesday, 20 February 2007 21:06:04

Dear David, I am very concerned that churches, GPs and other fine, upstanding, parts of society are going to withdraw their services from the community because of the up-coming Sexual Orientation Regulations. These have no clause allowing concientious objectors an escape hatch. What will you do to help such people and organisations, please? Also, do you realise that when the first Christian or Muslim is prosecuted under the SORs, it will mark the return of religious persecution to this country for the first time in 400 years?

PLEASE CLICK ON THE VOTE BUTTON, THEN MAYBE DC WILL GIVE ALL AN ANSWER :)

I agree with the comments above and as a committed Christian have serious concerns about the right to have religious freedom in this country. This current government bows down to pressure groups at the risk of alienating the majority of hard working decent people.
What has happened to conscience/faith and respect in the UK? Why is this type of issue being considered as a legislative one? Our 'native' faith is under attack from several sources and we need to stand firm for what is right.
Please stand against this unrighteous legislation David!

I too am very concerned. I do not want to see Christians imprisoned in what is supposedly still a Christian country. This is a matter of conscience. Please, David, help me to vote for your party again, by standing against the SORs.

I take it that when you refer to "religious persecution" you are meaning prohibition of the irrational prejudices of the religious. Persecution by the religious (of homosexuals, etc) is ongoing to this day: hence the need for the forthcoming discrimination legislation.

It's about fairness and equality. For ALL. Why should there be any exemptions? That doesn't make sense. If one group wants exemption - then they all do. Times have changed, gotta move on - we need to treat everyone EQUALLY. I really don't understand why some people find this concept difficult to understand.

This issue has nothing to do with equal rights - it is a matter of the nation doing what is right in the sight of God. The reason we are sliding into these sort of issues, I suspect is more to do with God's judgement than anything else. Clealry many folk out there will not agree with the very idea that there is a God, a Creator, but I and many Christians know there is, from personal experience and confirmed by a knowledge of His Word. Christians would never take this judgement into their own hands, because true Christians are prepared to be humble before God and to pray that God will vindicate His people.

We should not be misunderstood - we hate no one and judge no one - we are followers of Jesus Christ and would rather say the truth in love. It is God who will judge everyone in the end. Unfortunately these particular issues are indicative of the immoral state of our nation and there is no other way to explain it. This was not the case 40 - 50 years ago and surely anyone with any amount of common sense can see that. There are terrible statistics on crime and drugs to cause any nation to perhaps take stock of what has gone wrong - not what is the next fix. The prisons are full and overflowing, we are in crisis and the sooner we wake up to the reality of why, we may hopefully yet plead with God to be merciful. Otherwise it will simply get worse for all. I believe a careful reading of Romans Chapter 1 is required and that those who consider themselves as leaders of the Christian cause should rally for truth openly. If not, you could be failing in your love, duty and purpose before God.

The SOR need throwing out, not amending, and I personally fear for those who say otherwise, or I would not waste my time writing this reply. Love is prepared to say the truth, not compromise it - love is important to God and humans alike, it is often the only basis on which to resolve difficult issues, sadly even at personal cost, so wake up everybody or face the consequences! At times the gospel of Jesus Christ demands loving action, not compromises, so I would finally urge your party David, to abandon this Bill completely and be done with it.

Over to you David -I wonder if you realy can find the heart for a considered and helpful response to this one? Maybe you have a Christian MP who would help you out with it - if you have any questions I would be delighted to answer them for you?

With respect and loving concern for the nation.

Plusgas, what exactly is your "personal experience" of this god ?

He, she, or it has never seen fit to knock on my door (or preferably email), and I am sure you would count me as in need of divine intervention ....

@Plusgas

May I ask: Do you love homosexuals?

Posted by canvas on Wednesday, 21 February 2007 21:06:30

@plusgas

you said "we are followers of Jesus Christ and would rather say the truth in love."

Arrgghhhh. You don't have to believe in Jesus Christ to be capable of love. I challenge all those who claim to know the 'truth'. We are all equal. You are not special.

Are the reaction, not surprised and totally expected this, but thats fine. I understand where you are all coming from, but I make no apologies or excuses - blindness is a sad state to be in wiht respect to God (read John Chapter 9). Think about these things, the consequences I mean. I am not prepared to argue with any of you, there is no point, it is not worth it - but I am prepared to assist you if you want to discuss the truth about God.

With respect.

This is a matter of faith and belief in Gods teachings and I personally think that if you are committed to your faith then it would be impossible for you to do what the government is asking. It says in the bible that incest i.e. sleeping with your mother. father, brother or sister is a sin does the government condone this, if not then they cannot condone the fact the homosexuality is also classed as a sin. Before I get jumped on from a great height, if I was a gay then yes i would like to know why I was born that way and it must be hard, but governments carnt pick and choose which bits of Gods teachings they approve of it dosent work that way. This is a Christian country and although the churches are not full the underlying principles of being a Christian are still there in the population.

@Plusgas

What truth about God? That he doesn't exist or that he doesn't care? Looking at the world, those seem to be the two viable options.

I too am concerned. I see a strong drive presently for homosexuals to be given "super-rights" which trump the rights of other sections of society to exercise their rights - or even to be heard expressing opinions which contradict the homosexual agenda. I see the SORs as part of this - other groups will lose their rights, and homosexual "super-rights" are being established.

Plusgas I think we are in what is called the "last days" so therefore lift your head and take heart

Posted by Plusgas on Wednesday, 21 February 2007 21:35:45

To Whom it May Concern.

I am afraid God does care, He cares that we are redeemed from the slavery of sin. "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life" (John 3:16). That is why He sent His Son Jesus Christ into the world - it is only through Him that we can find salvation - otherwise God says we will perish and I for one do not want to perish, do you friend? Belief in Jesus Christ, the Son of God, is central to the Bible truth and eternal life, don't despise or reject it lightly, please consider carefully where you stand on this right now!

The very reason we are discussing this theme on this blog is because of human sin, it is not God's fault. God does not condone sexual sins, rather He judges them, if not in this life in eternity. I would plead with anyone guilty of sexual sin to listen and take stock of your conscience and tell me that you do not agree with the moral rights and wrongs of this? God will never agree with foollish thinkers, so wake up to reality before it is too late.

With respect.

Plusgas - please don't preach about 'sexual sins' on this blog. It's more than I can bear. In fact, please don't preach at all.
