Can we trust them?
I have had letters form our council encouraging us to do it.
I havent as yet,as I know some who have contacted them and they have given deatils of home improvements, extensions and conservotories that have been put on to the property, they have not had a change of band, but of course the council now hold this extra info about thier property, which I have a funny feeling is going to come an bite them on thier behind.
Just seems too simple that a council would want to give money back, because they will have to get the losses back form somewhere, and it could well be form those who have improved their property over the years, with hard work!

Welcome back Coolcat! I think there are many people who have been overpaying their council tax for many years - how great if they can now get justice. In the past it has been almost impossible to challenge the band that you've been allocated - until now.

Hi canvas..been laid up with knee and tendon damage,so I ve missed soooo much!
Yes it would be great if those who are paying could get something back and rightly so,but Im just worried that there may be more to this, its not often that councils in any area want to give back.
Another thing I forgot to mention was that after friends of mine had given all thier details, the dept then went on to tell them that it was not available in wales anyway...but of course all their info is now on file.
Lets hope it is for the good of others and not some way of burdening others with higher price!

I suspect that if 'millions' of people manage to get their houses rebanded, then the cost for each band will simply rise to compensate. Face it, if you work hard for a living, you WILL get screwed in order to provide for those who don't contribute, and to line the pockets of the politicians. In my view, the poll tax was a far fairer system. Everybody of working age should contribute an equal amount. Why should you have to pay more just because you have worked/saved harder in order to buy a half decent house? Why should the 12 people living in the similarly valued house next next door only have to pay 1/12th of what the single occupancy person has to pay? Council Tax is a grossly unfair system compared to the poll tax (or compared to anything!), yet people rioted when the poll tax was introduced.
