Browns theft of our pensions

Posted by Curly on Monday, 23 October 2006 21:03:12

David,

I'm surprised that little publicly has been said about Gordon Brown's destruction of the final salary pension schemes that many have belonged to. Good honest citizens have saved for a private pension for many years, just to discover that many of the expected benefits have been eroded, or that the scheme is closed to new mambers, or just closed!

I have already posted on this issue in my blog , just to annoy the local commisars - but this issues does need to be flagged up at a national level, and Brown needs to be held to accvount!

Very true, Curly! Not just final salary schemes, either. While stashing away a golden pension pot for themselves and their Nulab supporters, Brown and Blair have got us in UK in debt up to our necks, destroyed our State pensions and our NHS too.

I guess it is difficult for the Conservatives to make much political mileage out of Gordon Brown's theft of our pensions. The reason? The ripost would be "what are you going to do about it"?" - restoring Dividend Tax Credits would cost the Exchequer 5 billion a year. When finding funds for the very necessary tax cuts this nation needs, to give away 5 billion like that may not be the best use of what is available. Sorry, but we have been under a tax increase ratchet under Brown and it is going to take years to ratchet in the other direction, however necessary.
